Holy crap is it bad. When will musicians that I love stop deciding to be "experimental" and "different" and just write good music!!!! The same thing happened with Crime In Stereo and I have now vowed I will never watch them again.

I'm having trouble finding a job in Richmond. Help.

Highs:

Bamboozled was AWESOME.

H2O is the BEST BAND IN HARDCORE. Go here and try to tell me that their new record isn't going to blow away Go. Not that that is a difficult feat, but I'm hyped. It's been a long time since I've felt that need to run around and be stupid through a band's entire set. They opened with Everready as I knew they would and I was dead with in 30 seconds, but still pushed myself to keep going for the next 30 minutes straight. They played the two songs up on their space and I knew 1995 already from listening to it 100 times in a row after the first time I heard it, so it was still crazy. Jon Wiener was there. That was kind of weird, but cool at the same time. VIRGINIA world wide. MOSH MOSH MOSH MOSH MOSH

So right after H2O killed it, then Vinnie came on with Set Your Goals (terrible terrible terrible band) to play movielife songs. As we're walking over so see him, Leah is telling me I need to slow down, and then they start playing I Hope You Die Soon. I'm not sure what happened, but I just started running. I don't think I knocked anyone over, but it was 30 more minutes of going bonkers.

Then right after that, I got to see 7 seconds for the first time. They were good, but I wish I could have seen them in 82, 83, 84, 85. I bet it was insane. That transitions me perfectly into my next topic...

ummm...seriously. NEW FOUND GLORY PLAYING HARDCORE SONGS.

GENIUS

Not only is the music good, but the lyrics in general are awesome. Chad Gilbert is amazing. Any real hardcore kid can relate to every one of these songs. "Marty Mcfly come pick me up, I need a ride. I want to see what shows were like in 83!" I've only thought about this like 900 million times. It's a sad fact that I wasn't born until 82. They took down their other song, Captain Straight Edge. That was a good one too. Not as good as Madball Rules though. So hyped. I already ordered the 12" along with the new NFG 7" and the new H2O 7". I seriously can't wait for those records to come in. AND THEY'RE OPENING THE H2O RECORD RELEASE SHOW AT CHAIN. STAGE DIVES, HIGH FIVES, MOSH MOSH MOSH MOSH MOSH MOSH MOSH MOSH MOSH MOSH

MADBALL RULES
MADBALL RULES
MADBALL RULES
Matri(Cere)mony

last night was the first of three blacklisted record release shows. it was also the first show i've been to by myself in well over two years. kind of awkward. especially when ceremony covered california uber alles again and i couldn't participate because i was holding newly purchased vinyl. over all it was an excellent show and i have three new records and a shirt to prove it.

so matrimony is a song on the new blacklisted record about how the singer (George) doesn't understand why everyone wants to get married and how he can never picture himself making his life that much a part of someone else's. basically he said that he's too selfish to care about anyone much more than himself. at least he realizes it. i think now that i'm married, when people talk bad about marriage i get more offended than i used to. it's something i believe in, that God has given to us as a gift and it should be treated as such. the new guy at work, has been with his girlfriend for 4 years and lives with her and is still acting like he's not going to marry her anytime soon, and jokes about it all the time, and it kinda drives me nuts. i keep telling him he's going to, and that he just needs to do it, but he just keeps putting it off. i just think it's kinda stupid. just man up and do the right thing. grow up a little bit. not too much just a little bit. ugh, i shouldn't say that. i never want to grow up. i'm a toys r us kid.
it rules.

hello worldwideweb

like i said when i first started this blog, it was something to take up my time while i was bored at work. now that i'm no longer bored at work, the entries will be few and far far far far far between.

i got a raise. finally. came through on friday. my boss doesn't hate me quite so much. he's also taking me and a couple of other guys snowboarding tomorrow. stoked. no work. i don't have to use vacation/sick hours and i'm going riding. for free. it rules.

leah's switch to day shift has been awesome. i have way more opportunities to do things for her and she's in much much much better moods. it rules.

i went surfing yesterday and it was fun. i went with a couple of guys from church that are cool and i will greatly miss when we move back. i'm kind of in the middle as far as skill goes among us (one guy is way better, one is a little worse) so i feel no pressure to catch 100 waves like i do when i'm out with will or other people i might surf with. i plan on going much more. it rules.

i've been to a bunch of shows lately. which have been mostly good. i saw the comeback kid and crime in stereo last night. cbk was good as usual, although i can't stand their last record, but cis is pretty much terrible. their first two albums and ep were good, but the last record, man....it's just not good. too many stupid guitar effects and "experimental" vocals. stop trying to be brand new and just play hardcore. please. anyway, i saw dan from denver, and leah got to see bailey and andrew, whom she hadn't seen in years. dan is moving here next month so hopefully we'll hang out more. it rules.

i've been reading my bible a lot lately. God is not something i have really mentioned in here before, but i am now. i've been praying for a long time that God would give me the desire to want to study more and be more concious of everything He does for us, and I lately I've felt like my prayer has been answered. it rules.

a little over 4 months until we move back to RVA.

IT RULES.

Heart Attack at 30

Let's start with a playlist.

Polar Bear Club - Sometimes Things Just Disappear
Polar Bear Club - Sometimes Things Just Disappear
Polar Bear Club - Sometimes Things Just Disappear
Polar Bear Club - Sometimes Things Just Disappear
Polar Bear Club - Sometimes Things Just Disappear
Polar Bear Club - Sometimes Things Just Disappear
Polar Bear Club - Sometimes Things Just Disappear

x1000

That's about how many times I've listened to that record since it came in the mail last week. I love it.

Right now I'm listening to the Permanent/Resonance Split 7" since I received my turntable last week. I'm stoked on it. Took me about 2 hours to set it up because the geniuses that wrote the directions forgot the part about attaching the actual belt (long rubber band) to the drive shaft. Anyway, I got it working. The Resonance side of this record is stupid good. I've been a fan since Permanent played their last shows whenever that was all those years ago, even though then Resonance ended up back together. Oh yeah, I don't know if I've mentioned that Permanent finally broke up, which is kind of too bad in a way because their side of the record is way good also. On the other hand, Greg's a dick, Logan lives with his gf, as does James, and James apparently just bought a house. They all seem to be growing up about 2 years after Gibson and I did. Whatever...

Speaking of Gibson...James and Jennifer bought Leah and I some delicious beer and a bottle of Scotch for Christmas. Well, Leah wasn't such a fan of Scotch and I've come to learn I like anything with the word "Whisky" in the title, so Gibson and I split the bottle of Scotch one night while playing Guitar Hero III. I didn't go to work the next day. Thanks James and Jennifer!

Let's see...I might be getting a promotion, but I doubt it will happen because Oakley sucks.

We've been riding a lot lately! Waaayyyy fun! It's taken me a couple of trips to start getting my confidence back, but I'm getting there. No problems, straight riding but getting my air/rail technique and control has been a little bit of an issue. I just need to man up and bomb some hits.

My parents and Granny are coming out in a week! They will be here for 4 days which should be rad. Get to show them where I live, used to work, Cali in general. I'm getting better at the whole So Cal/Orange County tour thing. Of course all Moms wants to do is sit on the beach, but it's just too cold right now for that. Maybe for a little while, she can watch me surf or something. Maybe I'll take my dad, but I doubt he could handle it. We'll see....

Last but not least, Leah switched to working day shifts! We have wayyy more time together now and she is not nearly as tired all the time, she's been kind of sick lately, but that happens. Life seems to be better when we have more time to spend together, when we don't see each other a lot we both get testy and irritable.

interesting

so i just clicked on the little time button in the lower right hand corner of my screen (go ahead and follow along) to try and figure out how many days are left until we move back to virginia (yes, it's official we're moving back in the middle of july). so the calendar and the time pop up and i click on the month and select july (go ahead). did you notice how the cursor that tells you the date didn't move at all? i wasn't sure if maybe my computer was broken (it's been on the fritz lately) or what, but it turns out the dates in january and july fall on the same days of the week. maybe it's this way every year? nope. it's not. must be because this year is a leap year. soooooooooo..........

172 days until we start the trek back across the country!

work sucks. i might be getting a raise though.

daniel turned 21 on sunday. absolutely nuts.

leah works her last night shift tomorrow night. probably one of the best things that could possibly happen to our relationship.

i was dumb multiple times last week.

lots of people have died recently, january has not been a good month.

my friend's dad tried to anger me to the point of killing him at his own son's WEDDING. Where do I start?

Well, I finished my duty on night shift. Inventory got screwed up soooo bad in the end because of multiple reasons. However, I feel the main reason was the stupid idea to use the analyst that barely speaks english. Oh well, not my fault. Dumb bosses rule.

The trip back to Right Coast was pretty awesome as expected. It's set in stone now that we'll be moving back most likely in the middle of July. So I guess I should update that profile thing to say that we are way homesick and can't wait for the next six months to end. Christmas was good. My family is totally bonkers. I feel terrible for my mom. Every time we go back I feel terrible when I leave because she is left there with no one to help her deal with the craziness. My dad does nothing but hide in his room, and my other brothers and sisters are so terribly lazy that it makes me sick. Except Whitney, but she gets up at 4:30am everyday to take Chase (her completely loser baby-daddy) to work and then she comes back and takes her two kids to day care and then she goes to work and gets home at like 5:30pm. She does this EVERY SINGLE DAY. Oh well, that's what happens when you make poor life decisions. We saw most people we needed to see. Beau Beau at starlite and Fred at salvation. Gibson's birthday was nuts, but bdays always are back there. We spent time with Peter, Morgan, Kennedy, and Steve which was good. It's always good to see the old friends that I've known for 10+ years. It's kinda crazy to think I've known them all that long now. We went up to Pittsburgh on Christmas Day which was a nice, leisurely 4 hour drive where I scored the Back to the Future Trilogy in a trade with Jenna. I also took about 25 naps. It took me almost five days to get over my jet lag. Ridiculous.

I started work again on Wednesday at my GLORIOUS new location in Ontario, CA. It's pretty close to hell I think. Oh yeah, because the move got so screwed up we had to do ANOTHER physical inventory. Of course we started the day I got back. 12 hours wednesday, 18 hours thursday, 10 hours friday, and four hours Saturday. It was only 4 hours yesterday because I had some car trouble on the 91 and my car is now sitting in the parking lot of the Subaru dealer in Chino, waiting for it to get checked out tomorrow. I think that pretty much gets me caught up. Long entry huh?

A lot has changed

Oh man. So remember me saying I got out of working nights? HA! Right! I'm working nights. Between 8 and 14 hours shifts. It's great. I love being salaried with no OT. It rules. SO HARD.

The bonuses. I get to spend slightly more time with Leah, I think. I also only have to work 3 days next week. That's it. I'm not bored at work anymore because I'm out in the warehouse managing 6 18-20somethings which include a ratio of 4 guys to 1 girl, who happens to be incredibly flirtatious. Once again. OH MAN.

Still can't wait to get home.

i'm lazy

Those two words pretty much define my life. I have a job I go to everyday and do maybe 3 hours of work at. The other 5 hours I waste away counting the minutes and scouring the internet.

Anyway...life has been alright lately. I got out of working nights and managing a team that doesn't speak English, so now I will be commuting to Ontario, CA (not Canada) probably 3 to 4 days a week until we go to VA which is quickly approaching. I've been listening to the same 3/4 bands pretty much on repeat. In order of most listens:

1. Polar Bear Club- Demo; The Redder, the Better
2. Dag Nasty - Can I Say
3. Silent Majority - Life of a Spectator
4. Soul Control - Demo

I also started a wish list on Amazon which has lots of stuff on it. I've decided I love blues guitar and I really want to learn it.

I listened to Mike Ness this morning and decided he's a genius. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for sure.

I love my wife.

That's all I got.

Praise Jesus!

Sooo yesterday I wrote (whined) about working ridiculous hours. Well, yesterday, after I wrote that, my boss and I decided that instead of working 12 hours a day, I would work 8-10 hours overnight. So I'm going to have a team of however many employees that will be pulling product for the move and then I will be managing them. So not that much has changed right? Starting Sunday night, I'll be working 11pm - 8am. Huuuuuuuge change. Now I will get to spend way way way more time with Leah than I normally would working my day shift, and I'll get to understand what it feels like to work nights and try to sleep during the day. We'll see how screwed up my body gets after the first week. I also only have to do this until we go to VA which is in 23 days (18 work days). I think I'm going to be whiped for the flight though, since I will probably work 16 hours straight before we go. Wednesday night and then until about 3pm on Thursday.

Man, I can't wait to get to VA!!!!!!!!!!! Starting today my life at work sucks. Well, not necessarily starting today, because it sucked before, but now it sucks on a whole other level. 12 hour days (6 am - 6:30pm) , 5-6 days a week, and now for the kicker...NO OVERTIME PAY. I am a salaried employee which has its advantages, but has the one huge weakness of no overtime. This is going to put a tooooooon of pressure on my relationship with Leah, and it will pretty much whipe me out energy wise. Then once I get back from Virginia, I will have to work through that upcoming weekend (15-16 hours a day, which in Jay hours means 24), doing the final move of the warehouse.

I think this might be a tiny taste of hell.

Time to get serious

Alright, so anyone who somewhat pays attention to the news knows that it gets distorted and then some. Being some what involved in the punk/hardcore scene, I see lots of different posts/information that really blows up mainstream media/the goverment. Now, being a conservative, I generally blow this stuff off. Lately I have been doing more research to try and understand opposing opinions better. Today I saw this little blurb (I'm WhiteCollar) about hollywood-backed legislation that would supposedly give the government the power to cut off all governent loans/grants to a college or university if even one student was caught illegally downloading copyrighted media. Of course in the comments section all these commie liberal
"I hate the government" punkers (of which I used to be) immediatly blow up and post all sorts of stupid ignorant crap. So to back myself up, I read the article the blurb was about and didn't see anything that said the government could cut off any sort of funding to colleges based for the aforementioned reasons. Still giving punknews the benefit of the doubt, I looked up the bill and found the exact section they were talking about. Section 494, page 411. NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING that says they will cut off funding based on that. What it says is that colleges and universities will have to "develop a plan for offering alternatives to illegal downloading or peer-to-peer distribution of intellectual property as well as a plan to explore technology-based deterrents to prevent such illegal activity." They don't even have to implement the plans. Just DEVELOP them. Maybe I'm just being ignorant and naive, but damn. It's a pretty big leap to say that participating institutions will get cut off because of ONE student.

The lesson here: Don't blindly follow what ANYONE says as truth. Investigate for yourself and form your own opinions.

Sluttering

damn I love Jawbreaker.

Jawbreaker - Dear You
+44 - When Your Heart Stops Beating
Silent Majority - Life of a Spectator
In Flames - Tokyo Showdown

I'm tired and bored. I borderline lost my temper in a meeting this morning when I told some of my co-workers in this meeting that they were not living up to their end of the bargain and that Ifelt like my job was a waste of time because of it. Hopefully this will cause some things to change. I did hit the table once when the guy next to me repeated exactly what I had just stated was the problem. Dumbass. Anyway. Ricky comes tomorrow. I think I've got my travel plan down for the 4 hour round trip it will take to pick him up from LAX. I even know what terminal he's flying into and exactly how to get there. I'll probably still come stupidly close to getting in an accident, Leah will freak out, and I'll get pissed/frustrated/annoyed. As a precautionary measure to this I have already figured out exactly which lanes I need to be in and how the forks work. I will review again tomorrow while at work to make sure I still have it down. Lots and lots and lots to look forward to.

6. Someone besides me reads this! The internet is amazing!

7. And now back to being my grumpy old self...

Inventory on Friday sucked again. Not AS bad as Oakley inventory but still pretty bad. 13.5 hours of work. yuck. The good news is I think I'm good with my real boss again. For those of you that don't know I have two bosses. My real boss, Jay, is the distribution manager for Oakley, which means he is in charge of our (currently 3, soon to be 2) warehouses. He is about 6'3 and very intimidating. He runs marathons, so he can pretty much work forever without getting tired. I have seen him smile, but it does not happen very often. My other boss, Will, is 29 and very much like me. We got along great and have become pretty good friends. I can complain to him about my job in general and know that he won't get mad.

Anyway, how I got on bad terms with Jay...

I was pretty pissed working the Saturday of the Oakley inventory and was in general in a bad mood. I along with several other managers made that pretty well known through our actions, which pissed Jay off. He hasn't really talked to me for about two weeks, anyway, long story short, I worked hard on Friday and he noticed and started talking to me again. So I think my job may be a little less tense this week. Now, if I can only get Wednesday comped for all the extra unpaid hours I've put in lately...

On to Saturday!

Beer pong tournament! Leah had the flu that morning so she didn't play, but came out to watch. My team made it four rounds before being knocked out. I was really hoping to make it to the championship, but also kind of glad I didn't. 4 rounds was enough, and I was getting tired and bored, by the end of it. Drank a bunch of beer and hung with a lot of people I've never met before/probably will never see again. All in all a very fun day.

Now I just hope I can make it through these next 2.5 days until I get some much needed time off.

A little late

I'm going to do this from memory

Minus the Bear - Highly Refined Pirates
The Adolescents - Adolescents
Pearl Jam - Vitalogy
One Life Crew - American Justice

and once again I hate my job. I went surfing without listening to song that was in my head (dag nasty - values here) and didn't catch a single wave. It was so perfect. Chest to shoulder high, glassy, slight offshore wind allowing tons of dudes to get barrels. I didn't get ONE. Not one. Ughhhhhh... so frustrating. Plus I had to go to work after. No surprise there. She's cooler than I am.

So far today...

Cro Mags - Age of Quarrel
Pedro the Lion - It's Hard to Find a Friend
Silent Majority - Life of a Spectator
Dag Nasty - Can I Say

Whenever I listen to Pedro the Lion, I see a clear picture of Leah and I in the civic driving to the Kroger on Broad and Lombardy. I think we were on our way to go camping right after we got back together. We were listening to "Achilles Heel." Not anything crazy just a clear picture of her and I in the car together. It's the little thoughts about us that make me smile. Getting married was awesome and all, our wedding was crazy fun, but that was just one day, just one memory. Where as there are thousands of little moments that I think about everyday that make me realize why we're married.

The other thing that has set off some electronic impulses in my brain (those that do not make me think about wasting my life away in a cube) has been Silent Majority. Silent Majority makes me think about Permanent, which is in general a weird thing for me to think about. I have a ton of good memories about shows and playing, but so many more terrible ones where I felt insanely out of place and pissed off. So many times that I felt like an embarassment (and may have been sometimes). Anyway, the first memory this triggers is GregRampage and I in the car driving back from seeing Death Threat in Baltimore. This was when he first mentioned we were going to do Polar Bear Club. It was weird. Greg and I seldomly got along. But when we did, we had a lot of fun. Gibson, him, and I drinking forties (well he was drinking sparks) and lighting off fireworks in the alley behind Logan and Matt's house. Then i threw my forty at him and he threw it back and it broke and then the cop came up through the alley and we didn't get arrested. Good times. Then there was the time I got in a fight with Leah, bought a bottle of SoCo and proceeded to drink it from the bottle throughout the show in New Brunswick with Crime In Stereo and This is Hell. By the end I was wasted. Then someone put on firestorm in the van and I stumbled to the front to turn it up and accidentally kicked Greg who got pissed and punched me in the back. For some unknown reason I didn't punch him back instead I punched the van door and broke/split open my knuckles.

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this. I guess it's just crazy how such small bits of sound can have such a clear attachment to different events. Or maybe I'm just bored at work and trying to pass as much time as possible until 3:45 comes around without thinking about wasting my life away. Ugh...I hate this place.

Change the Key

I just thought it was kind of funny that I posted about Kevin Seconds earlier and then the revhq fun fact for the week was about Dag Nasty trying to recruit him as their singer. Thank the Lord that it didn't work out! I can't imagine Kevin Seconds voice with Dag Nasty. Well, maybe it's not that far fetched, but still.

Damn, I love Can I Say.

I'm jumping on...

I haven't had one of these things in several years now, not since the good ol' days of deadjournal. Oh well, my daily boredom at work has lead me to start a new journal in this new 'hip' form. Eh, whatever. I'll probably only post what i've been listening to musically that day as I already keep an actual handwritten list at work. Maybe this will help me feel like I'm not wasting my life away quite as much as I think I am. Anyway....Hi.

Playlist for 11/9/2007

Never listened to any of these songs before today.

Rocket from the Crypt - Circa Now

Gave this band one chance in high school and wasn't impressedj, but my musical tastes have changed dramatically so I thought I'd give them another chance. This record....eh. I have a couple more on the 'Pod I'll listen to before putting the final nail in their coffin.

Matt Skiba/Kevin Seconds Split

I took a philosophy class called introduction to logic in college. I really enjoyed it. Although I failed out that same semester, I received a B in the class. One thing I learned is that because A is always B does not necessarily mean that B is aways A. I love Alkaline Trio and 7 seconds. In relation I should love Matt Skiba and Kevin Seconds solo. For the first this is true, Matt Skiba solo is Alkaline Trio acoustic, definitely awesome. Kevin Seconds solo....not so much 7 Seconds acoustic, and not so good.

Leatherface - HWM Split

I only have the Leatherface songs and having never listened to them before (once more finding myself in the realm of musical influence ignorance that is my life) I liked them. It took me a while to get turned onto HWM, but I have come around and listen to them quite a lot. So many obvious influences on HWM that it's ridiculous. Need more music from leatherface fersher.
